Our Team

We have successfully brought together a wonderful team of individuals. They are all professional, responsible and caring. We aim to offer the highest standard of veterinary care.

Graham Oliver BVSc CertSAO MRCVS - Founder of Buckley House Vets

 

Graham qualified in 1986 from the University of Liverpool, and acquired a post-graduate qualification in Small Animal Orthopaedics in 1992.

 

He was one of the first veterinary surgeons in the UK to offer Total Hip Replacements for companion animals (1996), and provides a range of specialist orthopaedic treatments including arthroscopy, MRI, spinal surgery, fracture repair and growth deformity corrections at his new orthopaedic referral centre – East Midlands Referrals.

 

Graham has pioneered new orthopaedic surgical techniques and strives to provide the most progressive, caring and well-equipped facilities in the region. In his spare time, Graham enjoys motor-sport, restoration of period houses and spending time with his family.

Karen qualified in 1998 at Edinburgh University, going on to work in a mixed practice in Banbury before joining the team at Buckley House in June 2001.

 

Since her arrival, Karen has developed her interest in small animal practice especially feline medicine and disease, which she put to good use volunteering in Greece for several months neutering cats.

 

She also has a special interest in internal medicine with extensive experience in managing diabetes, seizures and challenging endocrine diseases.

 

Karen lists her interests as travel, (she walked the 4200m Inca Trail in Peru!), creating culinary master-pieces, interior design and racing cars.

Jonathan joined the Buckley House team after qualifying from Cambridge University in 1998.

 

During his time here he has developed an interest in Exotics and Birds and would like to embark on further study in this area by completing the RCVS certificate in exotics.

 

He has successfully completed the RCVS certificate in Small Animal Surgery, and has an interest in orthopaedics and soft tissue surgery including reconstructive and minimally invasive techniques.

 

Jonathan is also a Nurse Training Assessor for Buckley House, involved in the professional development of our student nurses.

 

Included in Jonathan’s many hobbies are gardening, scuba-diving, utilising his skills as a trained chef and playing the bongos!

Miriam joined the team at Buckley House in September 2006.

 

She successfully completed the European surgical certificate and has an interest in all aspects of small animal surgery and as an assessor, helps to support and develop our student nurses in practice.

 

Miriam is a scuba-diving instructor in her spare time and along with her husband, regularly trains students to PADI level and above, in the UK and abroad.

 

She has a Newfoundland called Bee and enjoys gardening on her allotment, often bringing in the fruits of her labours for us all to enjoy!

David Allen graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1992.

 

He has worked in dairy practice in country Victoria, large animal practice in Southampton, and mixed animal practices in Melbourne, Sydney and Nottingham.

 

David joined Buckley House Veterinary Centre in 2005.

 

David’s interests in veterinary practice are wide-ranging from medicine to surgery and he is usually the vet found wielding the ultrasound probe on a cat’s abdomen or dog’s heart.

 

In his spare time Dave claims to enjoys BASE jumping and haiku poetry - but we're not so sure! We do however know that he's recently become a very proud father.

Katherine has been part of the team at Buckley House since August 2000, after gaining animal care experience working at an educational animal farm.

 

She qualified in January 2004 and would like to continue to study for her Advanced Diploma in Surgical Nursing.

 

Katherine has recently had her first baby; a beautiful daughter named Annabel, and is enjoying being a new mum!

 

Katherine also owns a horse called Chester and regularly competes in one-day events, show-jumping and also in netball and extreme sports.

Lizzie joined the practice in October 2002, after completing her degree and travelling in the Greek islands and Egypt, where she volunteered in an Animal Rescue Centre.

 

Lizzie qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in January 2006 and has since completed the COAPE Diploma in Companion Animal Behaviour Therapy in 2008

 

She provides behavioural referrals for veterinary practices in the Midlands, and has a special interest in intra-specific canine aggression. Lizzie enjoys all aspects of nursing, specifically, surgical nursing, diagnostic imaging and rehabilitation.

 

Her hobbies include scuba-diving, photography and socialising with friends.

Becky started at Buckley House in January 2005 following her previous employment as a veterinary nurse in a specialist clinic for working dogs and racing greyhounds.

 

Becky is greatly involved in the rescue and rehabilitation of racing greyhounds and devotes much of her spare time to the Retired Greyhound Trust.

 

Becky also enjoys competing in charity sporting events and her hobbies include travel, socialising and sampling new gastronomic delights!

Jenna started working at Buckley House in March 2006, qualifying in August 2009.

 

Since qualifying, Jenna has developed an interest in MRI, diagnostic imaging and regularly enjoys duties as a surgical assistant.

 

Jenna would like to continue her professional development by undertaking the Advanced Diploma in Veterinary Nursing.

 

She has recently purchased her first home and has already taken in a stray cat called Bruce (after Batman!).

 

Jenna’s interests outside of work are kick-boxing, going to motor-sports events and taking in London musicals!

 

Emily qualified as Veterinary Nurse in 2009, and has been working in the field since 2006.

 

She enjoys all aspects of surgical nursing and anaesthesia and would like to gain further qualifications and experience in those areas.

 

She has previously worked as a kennel hand for Battersea Dogs and Cats Home which gave her invaluable experience before settling into nursing.

 

She lives with her husband and two dogs.

 

In her spare time she enjoys walking, travelling, Pilates and attending music concerts/festivals.

Fiona joined the team at Buckley House in September 2007, after moving back from Australia where she had been living for seven years.

 

Fiona qualified as an RVN in January 2010, and has special interest in anaesthesia, pain management and complementary therapies.

 

She is hoping to develop her career by embarking on the Advanced Diploma of Medical and Surgical Nursing.

 

In her spare time Fiona enjoys hiking, gardening, cooking and socialising with friends, and would like to start a rescue centre for Staffordshire Bull Terriers as she owns two, one of which she rescued as an RSPCA cruelty case.

Robert joined the Buckley House team in June 2007, after an extended period of work experience with us.

 

He qualified in July 2010, and enjoys all aspects of veterinary nursing.

 

He hopes to specialise in the future in small animal dentistry and preventative health care.

 

In his spare time Robert enjoys swimming, competing professionally for his county, and teaching people to swim, camping and socialising with friends.

Alice qualified as a veterinary nurse in June 2010, as well as gaining a Degree at Brackenhurst College.

 

Alice originally came to Buckley House and East  Miidlands Referrals as part of her university placement and we love her so much we asked her to come and work for us when she completed her studies.

 

Alice loves spending time with her dog Zac, cats Chandler and Cookie as well as her friends and family.

 

She has interests in art, design, cooking, visiting new places and meeting new people. In the future Alice hopes to complete a top-up degree in critical care and learn more about feline behaviour.

Michelle joined the team at Buckley House in July 2005, first in the role of on-call assistant, then moving onto full-time days.

 

She has recently completed her first year of veterinary nurse training and will qualify in August 2011.

 

Michelle would like to develop her interest in companion animal behaviour and physiotherapy, and enjoys nursing care of neurological patients.

 

Michelle also volunteers for the Retired Greyhound Trust (Nottinghamshire), and is instrumental in re-homing ex-race dogs and developing public awareness of the breed. Michelle enjoys socialising and spending time with friends and family.

Gemma started at Buckley House in March 2006 after completing her degree in Animals Sciences at Brackenhurst College.

 

She has recently completed her first year of her veterinary nurse training and will qualify in August 2011.

 

Gemma has several animals including an ex-racing greyhound, terriers, rabbits and guinea-pigs!

 

In her spare time Gemma enjoys spending time with her animals, socialising with friends and surfing.

 

Gemma is also Buckley House’s regular nurse comedian and is always ready with a smile to help the day go smoothly!

Emma joined the team at Buckley House in November 2008 and completed the Animal Nursing Assistant course with distinction in June 2009.

 

She will be embarking veterinary nurse training when she returns to the practice after having her first baby!

 

Emma enjoys all aspects of veterinary nursing and hopes to qualify and go on to specialise in post-surgical rehabilitation.

 

Emma has a menagerie of animals including 2 cats, 2 dogs, a horse called Robbie, and enjoys walking, cooking and socialising with friends.

Melissa joined the team at Buckley House in October 2008 after moving to Nottingham from Spain.

 

She has completed her first year of veterinary nurse training and will qualify in 2011.

 

Melissa gained previous experience working with animals at an educational farm park. Melissa specifically enjoys the nursing care of hospitalised patients and helping with post-operative rehabilitation.

 

She lives with her husband and two dogs who take up most of her spare time but also enjoys tasting foods from around the world, and travelling to unusual and exotic destinations!
